The History of Village Inn Cafe

Village Inn Café was started by Kurt and Kathy Bellows in 1986. It was originally opened at a small corner space in the Village Square shopping center across from Bank of America. After great success, Kurt wanted to expand the restaurant to serve more customers. In October 2007, Village Inn Café reopened at 204 Village Square, with a better kitchen, larger dining room, air conditioning, and additional restrooms. Pictures of old, historical Orinda were also put up in the dining room. Around February 2018, after 30 years, Kurt decided to sell the restaurant. He wanted someone local to take over it, someone who understood the community as well as someone who knew how to cook great breakfast. On March 20th, 2018, Peter Leou bought the restaurant from Kurt and took the helm of Village Inn Café. Peter was familiar with the Orinda community as the owner of Geppetto’s Café and has had years of cooking breakfast at other restaurants throughout the bay area. Peter’s family, the Leou’s are also very familiar with the Orinda community from operating Szechwan Restaurant for over 35 years. Peter’s brother Frank, now operates Geppetto’s Café. The operations and recipes have not changed at Village Inn, only a few additional menu items were added and the quality of the ingredients have stayed the same. The Orinda community has been very welcoming and we look forward to serving them for many years.
